Default Help me mod my seat!!!

Okay, my stock fatboy seat is what I use for trips because it has a the passenger pillion and a firehouse customs rider backrest. It's actually pretty comfy. However, the hard plastic seat pan cracked apart where the pillion bolts to the seat. So, I can't use the pillion at this time.

I'm trying to think of a way to mod the seat where I can make my rider backrest have a quick release type attachement, and also thinking of using JB weld and maybe some wire mesh to reattach the passenger pillion to the mounting tab so I can reattach it to the seat. I will also have the foam modified by mean city cyles for comfort and maybe get it recovered in the process.

My goal is to make the seat versatile to use on trips and around town and eliminate having two seats. I also want to run the seat as a solo when not touring.

On the quick release backrest, I was thinking about attaching a metal sleeve to the seat pan (which would probably require installing a metal plate to the plastic seat pan) surrounded by the foam, that I could slide the metal stem of the backrest in to. This would allow me to use the backrest when needed and take it off easily when not needed.

I have access to a welder, grinder, cutting tools, etc.

I could buy a new seat, but that's just not any fun!

Any ideas, pics, experiences?

thanks,

Ur 06 is different than my07, I have two bolts that hold the front seat on and then the pillions front slides on those two bolts and another bolt holds the rear.

That jb is great stuff, but without seeing where and how the pan is busted out its hard to say what to do to help.
I am trying to remember if U have 1 or 2 bolts where the pillion go on.. some pics would help.

Might ever see if U can just get the pan somewhere and replace it.

At work we used to have a plastic welding rod, used heat to melt in joints for plastic tanks used for zinc plating, a local welding shop may be able to do some thing to help in that area.

I am totally pleased with my stock seat also. got the wife the touring seat&backrest. stockers where APOS.

Maybe something like this would be the way to convert my seat to have a detachable backrest. I could find a way to attach this quick release bracket to my seat pan and have the foam and cover cusomized to cover it.

Try a plastic welder to repair the pan...
or perhaps Fiberglass...
