Default What to do....

I ride a '96 softail custom right now. I like my bike, but am ready to get something newer and fuel injected. So.... I've been to the dealer here and have been eyeballing the new Fat Boy Lo and a Street Bob. I am really in love with both of these in denim black. The price difference is something I'm considering, but whatever I end up getting, I want to keep for a long time. How does everyone like the ride of a Fat Boy? As far as the differences between a softail and dyna, what are the major differences between the two that I should really focus on? Since I have the 80 cubic inch motor right now, it's going to be a big jump for me on power, I imagine. I currently live in SouthWest Florida right now, but am moving back to South East Tennessee in the next year to year and a half. Which one would be better for mountain road carving, if either one is better than the other? I was really set on the Street Bob, but I'm not so sure now since this Fat Boy Lo is out now. I know I'm just rambling, so thanks for your time and your suggestions!

I have a 95", 05' FB and its a blast in the mountains. If you choose the FB, you won't be disappointed.

Personally, given your intended destination in Tennessee I would recommend going with the Street Bob. It has more cornering clearance and that will come in handy when you're out riding in the Beautiful TN mountains . It also handles slightly better overall than a softail. I would imagine, since you mentioned price, that the lower priced Street Bob may fit better there as well. The 96 inch motor will have a bit more power(Guessing that your Evo is close to stock) than what you have now but it isn't going to be so much more that you should concern yourself with it. All that said, I like the "Lo" personally. It's a cool looking scooter and strictly from a style perspective, it's head and shoulders above the Street Bob.

I fully agree with you and that's why I'm having such a hard time with this decision. It's not like I am going to go and buy one this week, or even this month, but I am starting to look and try to decide so when I get my finances in order I can pull the trigger then and not have to decide then!! Haha

Whats wrong with a new Custom? I would stick with the softail, but I might be partial to them.

If you can swing it then keep the custom and get a touring bike or turn the FB into one, big windshield, bags & etc. I'm partial to customs because I like the way they handle in the twisty/turnies and around town. I don't care for them on the longer runs blowing down the slab but I don't do much of that.

Besides, it's an EVO, your gonna miss all the tinkering you get to do now and you will need a new Laptop for the new one..hehehe!!

Doug brings up a good question. What kind of riding do you or are you gonna do? I suppose if your really aggressive then the dyna might be for you. If your more laid back cruising the the lo might be the better option.

I am partial to softails myself and I have seen the lo. It's a great looking bike so it's obvious what my choice would be. In the end... I think someone above said it best. Ride both... then make your decision.

Like me on your 96.... ur gonna miss that sound.

But fuel injection has alot of advantages also.
