Just took these today. I just got back from my dealer where they told me they will replace my rear disc rotor. It is turning Gold! Apparently they have seen a few 2006's coming in with discs changing color from normal riding. I am about an 80% FRONT brake user under normal riding so it makes no sense that I turned my disc gold. Regardless, they will replace it under warranty. Must be a bad batch of discs.
I also finally got the SERT done at the dealer and they dyno'd the bike.
I have high flow Air Filter, V&H Big Shot Staggards with quiet baffles...78.9 HP....78.8 Torque
I don't have a scanner to show the dyno chart, but it is a nice smooth line for both measurements.
They didn't baseline it. They just put everything on, and ran it on the dyno to make sure the engine was tuned properly. Based on what I have seen from stock numbers posted before, I got significant power from these upgrades. I don't know exactly how much I started with, but I know the numbers I got are better than a stock setup, probably considerably better...maybe 15%? Will never know for sure. All I know is the bike runs great and is powerful enough for me...for now.
Wow, this is weird! I was just out in the garage messing with my dog and noticed the rear disk on my 06 standard had turned gold. Then I came in and clicked on your thread! I've got 2000 miles on it and I am just the opposite of you, I use my rear brake 90% and the front for the last few feet of stopping.
So what does the gold color mean? Does it affect the stopping power or wear life?
Those are some good numbers I had my 05 Springer on the Dyno about 3 week's ago and running allmost the set-up you are only difference is I running the V&H Fishtail II's and these are the number's we got.
I was told the braking won't be affected. It is purely a cosmetic thing. Logic seems to dictate that heat is building up in that disc to the point that it is turning color which could mean fade might be a problem, or perhaps the metal is losing integrity...I'd look into getting it switched out. Feel free to have your dealer contact House of Harley in Milwaukee if you need some ammo for a warranty claim as HOH said they are seeing this on many other 06's.
