okay soooooo
I got the actual HD service manual for my model bike. found it in my dads garage. Apparently there are no fuses on a 90 fxstc. they are circuit breakers. now, with that being said how do you test them to see if they work.
i took off all the turn signals so it would pass inspection. now the brake light is constantly on.....WTF??? the service manual sucks and im wondering if the Clymer manual is any better?
I don't know. someone have anything???

when you pulled the turn signals did you move/remove a ground?
check the taillight ground, its probably back feeding through the brake circuit.
Your basic breaker test is to check for voltage on the output.
they are auto reseting.
yeah thats my problem. have no idea where the breakers ARE. the wiring diagram in the manual sucks. nothing in the book says where they are just that they are there. if i do find the breaker what do i do? thank you sir.
the tail/break light are the same bulb, two elements common ground(bulb's base), means most likely when you put on the ignition, the taillight gets power, but because it has no ground, it uses the break light circuit to find ground, thus both elements light.
I'm not positive, thats the problem(pun intended) but where you say you messed with the directionals, that would be my first check.
Another though, is the bulb in backwards
I wouldn't worry about the breakers until you check your ground and bulb placement.
PS: I believe the breakers are under one of the side covers.
Softail custom doesn't have side covers, the breakers are under the seat. But that's not your problem. You have power so the breakers are fine. Check all the wires that you unplugged especially in the area of the tail/brake light. Check your brake light switch. Check the socket the bulb goes into. You will have 2 hot wires going to the light. One for tail light the other for brake light. If those are shorted together the brake light will stay on.
Thanks for you guys help. I found that the fuses were in between the fuel tanks under the ignition switch. from the looks of them, they have been wired and rewired and then rewired again after a few beers. I tested them for continuity and i'm pretty sure that they are all good. so what would you all recommend next?

Oh yeah, and what the hell is this thing in the red circle??

Thank you gentlemen

does your wiring diagram show a ground symbol
or
coming right of the tail/brake ?
It could mean the lamp bracket is ground(bolted to the fender), in which case, a test lead touched to the bracket AND a know good ground should cause the brake light to go OUT, if so check bracket bolts for corrosion or paint.
You may also have to check the fender to see if its grounded.
If you can scan the wire diagram and post it here I might be able to give you more suggestions.
