I just bought a used 2000 FLSTC with a carb and a 95 inch big bore. How much louder if at all is the big bore over the stock engine?
I have the originally installed SE II slip ons and they are very loud, in-fact to loud. Someone told me it was the big bore kit making them so much louder, I thought it was just because the have 11,000 miles on them.
Considering putting a different muffler on but don't know if I should go with the new SE slip ons. I had them on another bike (96 inch) and they were not loud enough so I am confused.
The displacement by itself isn't going to make the bike louder. Cam timing can effect it, but more than likely, it's the pipes. Then again, 11,000 miles on a 2000....That bike's barely broken in.

Thanks, the cams are 203s not sure if that makes any difference. The bike has 25,000 total miles and the Big Bore has 11,000 on it since it was installed, sorry should have been more clear.

SE II are not that loud....not as loud as say a Vance and Hines pipe. I would check the baffle and also check to see if the diverter in front of the baffle has been bent open all the way.
See if you can take the baffles out and check if there is any packing left. I didn't have any packing left in my Rush mufflers after 20,000 miles. I don't know is the S/E mufflers packing or not. You might not be able to take the baffles out of them. I would bet that new slip ons will quiet your bike down....
Thanks guys.... I just put a bid in on some new in the box SE II on ebay. Will see if a new set will be quieter, I love the sound they are just too loud. In the mean time I am going to put some of the newer SE Street Legal mufflers on. My buddy has a set he didn't like, that should give me an idea.
Hello to ALL:
I'm new to the HD forum today and would like to know when you install a big bore kit do you get viberation from the kit? I did notice some clutch slippage when I get onit. All worked fine for the first 50 miles. Could the clutch be making the new viberation I have?
95" means you probably got a compression bump along the way. It dosent have the stocker EPA happyland cams....
A higher comp engine will be a bit louder than a low comp stocker.
So 95" Vs' 88"?
I say the 95" is louder.
I'm thinking the same thing as Chaz. Maybe you've got more than a stock 95" kit and you've got a bump in compression especially if the pipes are that much louder on the 95 vs the 96.
