So my dealer delivered my new bike today (had them put Vance & Hines big radius pipes, air intake, and tuner before it left).
So I immediately jumped on it and took about a 15~20 minute ride. Came home rolled in the garage and just sat and starred at it. Then I saw some smoke and a small flame come from the braided portions of the chrome oil lines that connect to the top of the oil res. They both burned up. I did not ride the bike hard, varied the speeds, and didn't exceed 55 MPH. It has 40 miles on it. Seems to me that the bike is tuned wrong and running too hot.
The only way I think that this could happen is a poor ground. Could be when you crank the starter the ground is going through the braid to the battery and burning up the outer braided cover. There is NO WAY the oil was that hot! I'll put money on the wiring work done during the tuner installation. I would call the dealer & have then come pick it up & take it back tot he shop before it burns to the ground. BTW I am not being funny!
Holy Crap!!!! I would be totally freakin out. Did you try to put the fire out?? As soon as I saw the flames I would be all over it. It looks like it did a lot of damage to other areas of your bike. I would probably ...be wantin to....maybe....shoot somebody.
I feel your pain, I gotta have another drink after seein that on a bike with 40 miles on it. Good luck, I'm sure they will fix it up just as good as new.
So the dealer came and got it. They called HD and HD said don't touch it. They are sending someone to look at it. There really isn't any damage other than the lines.
HD set me up with a loaner bike FLHXI (95in) until they make it right. I'm bummed though.
Glad to hear that they came & got it, at least they haven't tried to gloss it over. I hope you will keep us appraised of the cause, repair & treatment you recieve. It is too bad that it happened though!. At least it didn't burn tot he ground, I hate when that happens!
So harley rep came and looked at it. They found a positive wire grounding out against the oil tank. They instructed my dealer to replace the battery, cable, battery tray, oil tank, and oil lines. For the inconvenience harley offered me either an extended warranty or equal amount in accessories.
I won't get it back until next week because of parts availability. so I wait....
