Default What would you do first?

So being a newbie to owning/customizing, I can't seem to figure out what direction I want to go first with regards to what to upgrade my 07 standard. In your opinion, what has been the most beneficial for you? I've done a lot of looking around and don't know where to go first. And as always, there is a budget involved.

Just as an idea, I plan on using this bike to get back and forth to work as weather allows, so this thing will not be a garage ornament. Since I bought the bike used, the only thing I can tell that has been done to the bike is slip on exhaust and some various badging.

Again, just looking for ideas so all are welcome.

Personally....once I got the bike to breath better, sound better, and tuned it....I dont necessarally "Look" for things to do......Things just happen.....For instance...

I noticed I couldnt hear the radio.....Poof...Hog Tunes
I noticed my *** and back hurt over bumps...Poof Progressive 440 shocks installed
I noticed I wanted more "pull"....poof...Screamin Eagle SERT and Dyno job done....

It kinda goes like that. Just ride it. You'll see........

I like Gliden whole "Poof" analogy.

That being said...

Pipes...Errr Poof?

Air cleaner...Poof!

Lowering kit to help out with the whole evil knivel bus jumping look? Poof!

Most benificial to me has been....

Lots of "Poofs"!!

But make it sound how you want via the piping, let it breathe via the air cleaner and then find a direction on how the bike will please you visually and head on down that road.

Ummm...Poof!!

LOL at the replies.... there is a lot of truth in the "poof" factor. I totally agree with opening up the air cleaner and a good tune so that you are getting the most out of it... then let the fun begin.

Good suggestions, Stage 1, drop, etc. But take a little time, look at and listen to other bikes, so you know exactly what you want as far as type of pipes, A/C design, etc. There's a lot to pick from.

Well I've only put about 150 miles on it as of right now and already have plenty of ideas. The problem is where to start.

From what everyone is saying so far, looks like I need to start looking into a/c. I like the sound of the slip-ons that are on there. Would be absolutely necessary to get a tune after that? I know without one the bike will under perform, but would it cause problems that would hurt the motor?

Take everyones advice and ride it for a while. There are a lot of parts out there to be bought by us HD guys and lots of decisions. When I got my RK, I got caught up in all the dealer goodies and ended up removing half of what I bought. When I bought the NT, I hung out for a while and actually made a plan, it came out great and I didnt waste my money. Main thing is make it your own and have fun doing so.

You have to ride and ask yourself some questions and the answers you come up with will give you your "poofs".
Is it fast enough for you?
Do you like the way it sounds?
Are you comfortable the way you sit and how it handles?
Do you want to change the way it looks?
What kind of riding do I do?
Answer those and **POOF** you will know what to do.
