I just got my Deluxe back form my local dealer. I had it taken in for the 30,000 mile service. I told them I might need a front tire, check the brakes, and that I had a front end wobble at slow speeds. They said they had to replace the steering neck bearings, front tire, and front brakes, along with the $314.00 normal service interval fee. I dunno, I feel kinda like should have been kissed because I sure got screwed.
Question. Do thse bearing on the steering neck go out often? Did I in fact get the shaft also? Thanks friends-John
You tell us, you have the invoice. We can only guess.
$314 30K maintenance
$150 Tire
$45 1/2 hour labor to mount/balance tire
$30 Neck bearings
$90 1 hour labor to remove front end, replace bearings
$30 Front brake pads
$45 1/2 hour labor to replace front brakes pads
Total = $704
Yeah, sounds like you got screwed. But then you also got screwed on the $314 30K maintenance. Parts including Syn3 for a 30K runs about $80. Might want to consider buying a manual and a torque wrench.
I've been really lucky, perhaps I have cultivated a good relationship.
I've given beer to the parts guys, the maintenance manager, and others who determine if I need vasaline or not.
Nice, nothing like a bunch of drunk guys taking care of your bike... LOL !!!
Not to drift off topic.....but with anything (Boats, Cars, MC's) your always better off doing as much of the stuff as you can yourself. As long as you know what you are doing and you are able to do it. Otherwise..........you are a target at close range and the average dealer always has a .45 at the ready.
The exception is: IF YOU REALLY KNOW a good dealer, or a good mechanic (the kind of guy you would have over for dinner) you probably won't ever get "technicially" screwed, BUT your going to "pay$$".
First, I'll agree with the DIY points. Then you know it's right. Cost = parts + your time.
If you're going to have the dealer do it, though, why do I never hear of anyone telling the dealer to call and give the cost before doing the work? And if something changes along the way, inform me for approval. Why is it always... I dropped it off, they did a bunch of stuff, and damn that was expensive?
