This is behind the rear jug The small cutout in the center it looks like a small slit it seems like theres a crack if you you at the pic. Theres no oil there bit you can see theres a bit of black there maybe there was oil there at one time. Any ideas? thanks
I just checked both of mine. They have the slit as yours does. The crack on the other hand is one for the experts. From the pics and what i see on mine the crack is in a support. I don't think that could leak, but i could be wrong if it is deep enough.
I just took a close look it kind of looks like maybe a imperfection in the mold ? But why the black around it? it had to leak at some point. I hope this is not a big deal .. thanks everone
Yup its an oil leak. Mine has leaked their sinse about 2000 miles but i didnt want the steeler to split the case on a perfectly running motor. now i have 60,000 miles on it and it has not got any worse. If you come up with a easy fix post it. I have seen a few bikes with the same leak. It is atributed to poor casting.
The little semi circle beside the gap seems to be raised. Many engines weep oil here due to poor sealant application (robotic) and is harmless. The slot itself is most likely for prying the cases appart when splitting the cases. It would appear the an oil stain has highlighted this raised casting flash with a stain around it's edge. Not likely cracked. Even if it was it's only in the slot and this area of the case has a lot of material.

i read on the forum that you can clean the hole and then poor a sealant in it and let it dry and that will stop the oil leak
