Default Windshield change for fatboy

I have a 07 Fatboy and I will be putting a set of passing lamps on it by December. I plan on going with the style that are on the Heritage/Road King and when I bought my bike new I had the dealer put a detach/ winshield on it. My question is will I be able to use the same windshield when I get the passing lamps installed or will I have to buy a different windshield? I don't have the tools to change my current windshield by modifying my windshield by sutting it and etc. if that's the case.

Re: your quick detach windshield, does the H-D accessory catalog say anything like "will not fit with auxillary passing lamp kit blah, blah, blah"? They usually state all the exceptions to fitment.

It will fit, but not the same way as the Heritage shield or FB shield fits for the passing lamps. I did exactly what you are wanting to do. Had the detach shield for no passing lamps and installed the passing lamps. Typically the shield mounts on the "outside" of the passing lamp bracket on the rubber grommets. Our shields will not bend far enough to do this. It is close, but it will not want to stay on and just does not fit right.

For the upper grommet you will need to put it against the forks as usual then add a ~1/2" spacer to compensate for the width of the upper portion of the bracket. If you look at other bikes, you will notice they have a 3/4 spacer between the bracket and the forks. For the lower mount I wrapped some electrical tape at the bottom of the shield mount, not the bracket mount, to absorb any vibration and to keep things from scratching The lower mount will slide right onto the hardware of the bracket, in between the bracket and the fork. You will not be able to use the rubber grommet for the lowers with our shields. When you get the bracket and match it to the forks, this will make sense. When you have everything, get a hold of me and I can get some pics for you.

In the mean time, look at some bikes with passing lamps and notice that the shield attaches on the outside of the bracket.

Or, go get another shield Maybe some one will trade?

Got the HD detachable windsheild with passing lights on '07 Fatboy. No problemo!

I have an 08 FB. Looking at a RK Windshield. I don't have passing lamps yet. Im thinking about putting spacers on the screws between the forks and the mounting bracket. Anyone have any luck with that. Thanks.
