Default cleaning the front forks

I just got a 2002 Heritage classic last week and started cleaning it today. I put it on my sears jack and was having a great time until i got to the lower front forks. They look like they are very lightly pitted? I tried a little chrome polish and aluminum but neither did any good and i didn't want to try to much thinking i might mess it up. Is it aluminum that is clear coated? What do i do to get rid of the pitting?
thanks
Paul

Mine were pretty badly pitted as well. There is no clear coat on the aluminum. You could take them apart and get them sanded and polished. I simply sanded mine down a bit and painted them. I like the look and I think I'll sand blast them and get them powder coated when riding season is over.

The black forks really look good on you bike, good idea. Mine is blue, i'm not sure it would look ok.
You painted the back of your running lights too? I like it.

The stock passing lamps now sit on the shelf, these are PIAA fog lights that came out of the box with black powder coating.
