Default Help! - Sissy bar problem...

I just bought a 2001 Night Train about 2 months ago, and it had a 17 inch wide 2-up seat, which I took off and replaced with the original badlander (for now). Now my problem is the sissy bar that I would like to remove. When I turn the bolts, they don't come out, almost as if all four of them are stripped, which I highly doubt. This is my first HD, so I am asking if there is something going on here that I don't know about? All I have done was try turning all 4 bolts, and I can't find any nuts on them, so i figured the metal of the rear fender was threaded, which I'm not sure if that's true or not. Please help me out! thanks!

On my 05 Fatboy the inserts are threaded so the bolts will loosen without an additional wrench. My friends bike is a 96 Sportster and it has nuts on the backside that require a wrench. Not sure about your model, I'm sure someone with a 2001 will chime in soon. Since your bike doesn't have nuts on the backside it almost sounds like the inserts are stripped; however it would be unusual for all four to be stripped at the same time. While trying to loosen the bolts reach behind the fender and see what you feel, this should at least tell you what you're dealing with. Good Luck!

Thanks, When i reach under the fender, i just feel the ends of the bolts turning and nothing else is there. No nuts or anything. so if they are stripped, what are my options for getting those out?

have you tried reaching under there and putting your finger on the end of the bolt and applying outward pressure as you turn the bolt? maybe that will help the threads catch.

The 01 would definitely have a nut on the back of the bolt......Check under the fender again..It's easier if the bike is on a lift....9/16th nut....

After I looked, the front 2 bolts have nuts. However, the rear 2 bolts dont. They just keep turning and turning without moving out at all. My brother-in-law has a wide glide, and he told me i should take off the turn signals because the nuts are probably being blocked by them. I don't know a whole lot about taking bikes apart and putting them back together, so I was wondering if this is true before i end up taking anymore parts off my ride. Anyone know?

sometimes if U apply some pressure to the backside outwards like with a WONDER bar or something like that, being careful not to scratch or bend anything, that will be enough pressure to start the bolt to come out while turning.......
