Question Seized Stripped Screw help!

So I started work on my bad boy this morning. Everything was going really smooth until one of the screws on the chrome fender struts was seized and ended up stripped. I have tried all removal tools, no luck, now slowly increasing drill bit sizes. Ran to the store to get a 5/8 hopefully get the head off and then i should be fine.

Anyone have any tips or tricks? Thanks Ted

can you get at the other side of the bolt? if so cut that off with a cut off wheel and pick a new one at the hardware store. ace has a good selection of chrome bolts and nuts, acorns etc.

yes patience also what i do is some times i try and use a chislt and small hammer to get screw loose but great care has to be taken as you do not want the chisle to slip off screw and damage paint i also have taken a dremel and made a flat screw driver slot in the screw and used a large flat head screw driver.

I did the same thing once on a rear fender strut. I got it off my grip the sides with a set of vice grips and VERY carefully putting pressure on it. I would due little turns and reapply the vice grips until I got if backed out enough to make a full turn.

That loctight can be a pain most of the time!

Good luck!

Best thing to do , is what you are doing. Drill out with small bit and work to larger ones until the head of the bolt just falls off.

I just had the same problem. It was one of the three screws holding on the air filter (don't know why they have to be torqued so tight?!?)

I stripped the POS trox head. Then broke off an easy-out in it.
Today I took the dremel and made a flat head slot. Then took the manual impact driver to it. Came right out. And I can still use it as a flat head screw now.

The next step if that didn't work was to take the head complete off.

get a set of left handed drill bits (no joke), you have to put your drill in reverse to use them, BUT as your drilling, its trying loosen the screw, a lot of times the screw will come out with the bit.
