Compesator help
i have a 1992 heritage softail. i recently replace the detent spring in the transmission. it had snap off and shifter would not return to central position. anyway. i now have a vibration that i cannot figure out. i removed and installed the compensator with an impact and am wondering if that didnt mess something up. this is all new to me so i have several questions. i surely could not have messed up timing because from what i understand the bike has ignition timing and cam timing and i did not mess with either one of those in the process of changing the spring. i am thinking that it is in the compensator, chain or chain tensioner which i have adjusted many times to no avail. any help would be greatly appreciated
The impact might have broken some magnets loose in side the rotor.
Does it charge, 14.2 volts at 2000 rpm is normal.
I would remove the compensator and pull the rotor off and check the magnet segments.

Ok thanks i will look into that. Seems to start ok even sfter sitting for a week but i have not checked to see if it is charging. I have however not told u the full story. After putting bike back together [and keep in mind this is the first bike i have ever worked on] i rode about 40 miles with no lube in the primary chain case. This should not have hurt anything except the wet clutch. Wich the clutch lever is a little tight to pull in but the bike shifts just fine and i am pretty sure that the clutch is not causing the vibration that i am feeling in the seat and foot pegs.
