my 07 heritage, with 37k, is making an odd whine from the front tire.
Wondering if it's bearings. Only does it going into a curve at a good clip. Say an exit ramp for example. Whine is similar to that fifth gear whine. New front tire. Did it before the tire replacement. Suggestions on where to start looking?
And just to beat someone else to the punch, no, I do not want cheese to go with that whine.
Tire is properly inflated.
thanks
It's gonna be the wheel bearings. As you are going into a corner you are placing a shearing force on the bearings and this is where you will first notice bearing problems.
There are really only two choices from the front. Well, three if you consider tread or tread design, but bearings, dragging brake shoe, or tread design. Replaced the stock dunlop with another dunlop just a few hundred miles ago, I had 36k on my first front tire, no reason to change with that kind of results. Brake pads do make a little bit of noise, when I shut it off and coast into a parking lot. And, these are original pads as well. Today, my plan is to hoist the front end off the ground and spin it and see what, if anything happens. Sounds like replacing the bearings simply as a matter of elimination is the way to go. Guess I'd have a spare set if that doesn't fix it.
Thanks all.
Noticed my fatty at 30k makes some noise when I go into a corner. Not really a whine, but more like rubbing, tire on uneven pavement sound. Not too many miles on the tread. I'll add check bearings to my list for this winter.
