my dad paid 9000 for a 2000 with 4000 miles on it with stage 1..............look around you can find good deals nowa days...........7 is all i would pay for it ....evo is a damn good engine too
demo some bikes, ride some used ones, newer is better most of the time unless it is CVO or anniversary model. if you get a plane jane you can style it to be yours
Your mate doesn't need to sell if he is standing on $9.5k, let him keep it and don't offer to buy it from him. Start doing some serious research on Ebay, Craigslist and see what you like, what fits your budget and go from there. Make sure you search on Ebay the completed listings to see what bikes sell for, if they do sell, etc. that will show you what the real "market value" is.
I am sure your mates ride is nice, but I doubt it would sell for anything over $7k right now.
You should be able to find plenty of used fatboys in the $10K range right now.
. I concur.
Jarhead, I was in a similar situation last year - wanted an 09' Fatboy, however, the local dealership was unwilling to negotiate below MSRP.
I checked into E-bay for 'ballpark' pricing only, as I had no intention to travel or ship for the bike. Eventually used the local Cycle Trader publications and Craigslist. Great sources.
I found this prestine, one owner 04' Fatboy w/ 3200 miles and loaded with all H/D chrome components and options (which I would have purchased anyway's) on Craigslist. Paid $12K. Wheels, rotors and pulley I added.
Probably now and into 2010, you will find great deals.

I just sold my '98 Fatboy with 4500 miles and having never seen your friends I would guess mine was nicer!!!! I sold it for $7600 which was a fair price, they're out there. The '98 with the carbed EVO was a great power plant!! Really loved it, great riding and running machine.
Thanks again for all the tips and the knowledge. You guys Rock! I been looking around the past few days on Ebay, Craigslist and cycle trader. Nothing so far. Ill have a talk with him about it when he gets back from a trip.
I am in New york.
Thats one sweet deal you got there Nickrc3. Nice bikes all of you got!
