I'm starting my search for a good deal on a low mile used softail for the wife. She is trying to decide between a Heritage and a Deluxe. She likes them both and I think it will come down to finding a good price per mile. Either bike will require some mods to make it perfect. My questions are: What year did HD start using the 88", what year did fuel injection become available. I want to get her at least the 88" and it must have FI. Did HD make any other changes to either bikes that you would consider a must have. BTW, her 07 nightster is for sale in the classifieds if any one is interested.
88" 2000-2006 for Softails
2000 Fuel Injected was an option. HD Changed to Delphi FI in 2002. Its recommended to get a 2002 or later if FI
2002-2006 is pretty much the same bike. They changed the crank materials after 2002. Some lights changed. Added easy clutch in 2006... Nothing major til 2007 with 96", 6 speed, 200 rear tire and Hydraulic tensioners.
Thanks guys, thats what I need to know. Looks like I'll start my search for a 02-later FI Heritage or an 05-later FI Deluxe, possibly even an 02-later FI Fatboy and I'll swap out the FB front fender for a FL style
