I think the only time that the solid wheel would feel more of a difference over a spoked wheel is when you are passed by a huge truck (semi) going about 60 mph and you are going bout 20 or less...as in you are just merging back onto the highway. I don't think the spokes would feel that as much as the solid wheel....IMHO

Yeah, if the spokes are turning they become like a solid wheel, that's why exhaust fans can't move any air, oh wait they do! Helicopter rotors act like a solid wing and don't pass air either, oh wait, how can they rise? Guess those theorys are wrong. My experience is: my '02 Fat Boy with solid wheels never did anything wierd, but always felt "funny" to me. I probably could have gotten used to the feeling and never had a problem. I put spokes on it and it felt like any other bike I'd ever ridden. It definitly felt different, and I'd been riding 35 years then. My theory: the wind can act a little on the front wheel, which affects the feel at the bars. It's not dangerous, but it's unnerving to some of us, others get used to it and don't even notice it, it's that subtle. Bagger guys notice that the batwing bikes with a handlebar mounted fairing feels different than a Roadglide with the frame mounted fairing. It's the same thing the wind acting on the fork. Remember, Harley used those solid discs on the rear of a lot of models, Sportys, Night Trains, Sottail Customs, Deuces, et al and nobody says those bikes get blown around. So I think it's like Kristofferson said, "partly truth and partly fiction."
