Default Fatboy Screamin Eagle

Hi guys,

i am going to buy my first Harley, and i need some advices :

my previous bike was an old kawasaki Sumo (1500 cc and 90ft lbs at 3000rpm :-) ), i didnt really enjoy the behavior of this bike but i loved the engine and its torque at low rpm. I have previously tried some 1340 and found the engine a bit weak at low rpm (i do not like to switch ;-) ), thus i found that the Fatboy Screamin Eagle 06, can be a good choice for me.
?
i would like to read some feedback from owners about reliability, behavior, differences with the fatboy stock or other 1450, how long does it take to get one, is there a waiting list ?

thanks a lot

My wife has one and I can feel a big difference in the Torque compared to my Deluxe....It is worth it??? That is up to the buyer. My wife only bought it for the look. I ride it now and then just to blow the carbon out of it....

Prices....She bought hers at Gainsville Fl for MSRP and they only had the one left. At Daytona Harley they are asking 5 to 6 grand over MSRP and they had 6 of them. So I guess you need to do some shopping before you dive in.......Good Luck.....

Thanks for you insights

it s look good, do you had any technical problems, is the kind of heavy modification like 103b decrease the life expectancy of the bike ?

whatever i will try to find one but i believe it will not be an easy task, i am pretty sure that very are waiting for me here, in australia ;-)

regards

I have only had mine for a couple weeks and have around 500 miles on it so I really have not got on it yet, but you can tell there is alot of ponies there ready to go. Having said that it is greatly detuned like every other HD coming off the line, but this bike has great potential. Stock it has in the mid 80's H.P but with a little minor motor work it will have in the 120's if you want. I have purchased the screamin Eagle 11 slip-ons and the SERT to be installed at my 1000 mi. I struggled between the slip-ons and the Vance & Hines Big Shot Staggered but I wanted to stay more with the stock look of the shot gun exhaust and the screamin Eagle theme. I figure for a couple hundred dollars for the slip-ons if I don't like them after a while I can always get the V&H later. As far as reliability of the 103 I am putting my trust in HD and my own riding habits. Love the look and the ride. I shopped several local dealers with-in a 100 miles and found quite a variation in pricing- from not budging from MSRP to 4000 under MSRP There are still a few around however, but going fast.

Hey Damien,

Go for it man....I have an 04 Fat Boy with the following mods (95 ci kit, high compress cast pistons, compression releases, 251 midrange cam, heavy duty valve springs, adj pushrods, SE Mikuni carb, SE intake kit, heavy duty tappets, and 6200 rpm module, V&H Big Shot Staggered (no baffles)....HD all the way except the pipes). It's rip snorting fun...I've never had to come close to full throttle to get out of the way...even 2-up. More than enough power for me at 95ci / 1550cc (stock is 1450cc)... I set it up for midrange RPM performance because that's realistically were I spend most of my time on the roadways.

I ordered my bike new and had the dealer mod the bike right away so I didn't have to break it in twice (It was a divorce present to myself!!!). I waited approx 2 months to get the color and carbureated model, and another 2 weeks for the mods. With some extra chrome and the above mods, I was out the door at 22K total, including tax and the dealer gave me 2 extra years on the warranty (4 total). My dealer is great...they have a reputation for standing behind the 'terms' of the factory warranty. HD typically voids the warranty as soon as you change anything.

One criticism I've heard of the HD 103 kit is that the stroke length is increased to get the 103 displacement. This is not the case with the HD 95ci Kit which only increases bore size and only involves 'upper' motor work/disassembly. Longer strokes can result in lower RPM capability. I understand there are aftermarket piston/cylinder kits that will get you the higher displacements without increasing stroke length by using a larger diameter bore. Anyway, I think you'll be happy with the 103 FatBoy SE...it's a beauty...

I humbly admit that I previously owned a '95 Honda Shadow V-twin (...my primary reason for the divorce!!!), 1100cc with a single-pin crankshaft...it was Harley-like in styling/looks...a nice bike, but nothing compared to a Harley...Harleys are much more visceral...

Good luck...enjoy the ride...let us know how it works out...

Regards
AlbertG

I got one. Go for it! It is worth it? Yes. If you think it is over-priced, then one must say all Fat Boys are over-priced as well. Because if you do the math, all the options, chrome, etc that are included in the SE over stock then you got yourself a deal, it is actually more cost effective. Not to mention the 200 tire is not even an option of the standard Fat boy, and an upgrade to 103 on the standard will cost an arm and a leg. One other advantage that most people over look is the MSRP, it is documented and Blue-Booked, so when it comes to insurance, or selling or trading, there is no doubt about it's worth vs. options you might add on a standard Fat boy, good luck on getting the value back on chrome you add on a standard bike should you need the insurance company to give your bike’s value.
I had mine for about 2500 miles now. Got the V&H staggered with PCIII, dynoed with no other upgrades and the HP is in the 90’s. Happy with my choice after riding customs for years, I am getting comfort, reliability, style and looks and performance. It’s all good.
