Ape hanger install advice
Here's some tips I think might be helpful.
1) For removing the tank, get two clamps, and clamp off each side if teh crossover as close to the nipples as you can. Cut the middle of the crossover and lift the tank. Once you have the tank sitting on a shelf or table, unclamp on side to drain the gas in to a container.
Since you now have a good oppurtunity, I strongly recommend you get a quick disconnect for the fuel crossover line. You can find em on ebay (I have a Herko one that works great).
2) If you are extending the wiring, you can get a spool of 14 gauge wire at Lowes or Home Depot cheap.
3) Some people have a preference of solder vs butt connectors, but I personally find butt connectors perfectly adequate and if you get a good crimper and connectors, it will be just as good and much less time consuming.
4) When taking the pins out of the connectors, use a paper clip and angle it curved down towards the pin side when removing each pin. (I know that's a little hard to explain..sorry if that don't really make sense).
5)When reconnecting the wires back into the connector, I use the other connector as a guide. Red to red, white to white, etc.
6) wd-40 inside the apes when pulling the wires through the bars. Lots of it.
