The Keihn (sp) CV carb came stock on Haleys for a long time, from around 1988-89 until the last carbed bikes were offered, in 2006. They work very well on stock and mildly modified Bikes. S&S is an aftermarket company that sells after market carbs. In my opinion the S&S carb offered improved performance in the 70's and early 80's over the stock carb on even stock bikes. On late model bikes it's hard to beat the CV. There are a lot of free flow air cleaner options out there for both. The Screamin' Eagle is hard to beat on the stock CV, and the S&S teardrop set up is great on their carb.

Cv carbs dont have an accelerator pump for one, but aftermarket's do. Aftermartket has alot more tuning that can be done vs. a stk carb. I put a s&s super e on my stk 88", (except pipes and air cleaner. Ive had no problems with my s&s except for dirty fuel in the bowl but thats an easy fix and that was my fault dame aviation fuel lol.

missing the question, "what does that have to do with which aftermarket air cleaner you purchase". i think it has to do with the size of the carb opening as the harley CV is 45mm and the s&s is 52 or 58.
