Rereading the OP post he bought the shocks with the lowering bolt already installed and only had to mount them up. Were as I am going to compress the springs and swap the bolts until I can afford an air ride.

Now if I am wrong please some tell me now!
You are correct with me buying the shocks with the lowering kit installed. They are on ebay if you just look.

Oh I am sure they are and i have seen them....the point of my post is that you can use the lowering bolts on the stock deluxe shocks.

If I did not have other things I wanted to do (budget) I would go your route but for 20 bucks plus any blood loss from me is not a bad deal.

Your bike looks great by the way!

Yes... you are correct BSD....I used these bolts in my stock Deluxe shocks and everythng was a OK...Just make sure to use that spanner wrench and tighten them up all the way as stock pre-load is set for about 175 lbs. The ride isn't bad riding 1-up. As for 2-up riding my OL' a$$ did catch air on certain big bumps. It was very rare but it happened...

So you guys are saying the deluxe models already have the bolts on them to lower? I am amazed that the factory would not just use these same shocks for all. What would it be....A 20 dollar option LOL

It's all fun and games right up till you try to torque the 19mm shoulder screws. The HD manual gives you the part number to purchase what I can only believe to be a very special "crows foot" wrench from Snap-on.

My 08 Hertigage classic was lowered by my dealer, who is no longer here. They adjusted my shocks for riding double. Now I want to adjust them for 1 person. I have a spanner wrench and have moved them a little. How much do I move them ? How do you measure the shock preload ?

Thanks

I am going to assume you loosened the locknut for them. After that they should turn rather easily. Sounds like you want to have a lighter preload. Therefore you need to turn them in or AWAY from the locknut. I don't really know how to measure the preload. I would just adjust a little at a time until I am happy and make sure you turn them in equal amounts.
