I was trying to decide the same thing. You have to change your cables anyway. So my advice would be (if you're scared) is to go with 16's with 4" riser. Since the stock Harley riser is 2", this should put you at about 18". You'll have to order the kit with longer cables. Call HCC and tell them what you are doing. This way if the bars with 4" riser are too tall for you, you can replace 4" riser with stock 2". The cables will be a little long, but you won't have to replace them. Now you're back at 16".

If you're not scared just go w/ 18's and forget about it. 6'1" is plenty tall enough to ride w/ 18's no problem.

Just something to consider if you are in New Jersey, from page 52 of the 2007 New Jersey Motorcycle Manual: "Extended handlebars, which extend above the operator’s
shoulders, are illegal in New Jersey."
I saw it already mentioned, but with current insurance practices, both vehicle and medical, you should give it some consideration.

"The little lady (Santa), gave me a little card this morning that just said "16 or 18"... "

And you're SURE she's referring to bars and not the amount of snow you have to shovel this weekend??

Enjoy your gift..... whichever it might be!

I was able to sit on a pretty nice set-up at Harley today. 1.5" wild 1 risers with a solid 1-piece clamp, and 18" bars. I would've pushed them a bit farther forward... but for the most part... very comfy. Now this was on a deluxe so my fatty seat will be a little bit taller too. These sat about ~1" over my shoulders... but they felt great and were swwwwwwweeeeeeeeeeeet lookin.

That may be the set-up I go with. Im not a big fan of tall risers, and these were a little shorter then my stock fat boy risers. They were really thick and stout looking. We may have a winner

Well sounds like you made the decision, 18's. Like all other Harley stuff, as soon as you change your mind, you wished you stuck with your original decision.

I got the 16's and now wished I'd gotten the 18's.

Some new developments... A buddy of mine just got some 16" Chubby's that he had ordered, but not installed yet. We took a couple of pics to get a feel for where 16s or 18s might be. The lower pics are with the bars sitting just in front of the risers (close to where they would mount). And the other pics are of the bars on top of the risers (probably closer to where 18s would be). Seems 16s would keep my shoulders more inline. Anyone ride with their hands above the shoulders that high? Is it still comfortable on the longer trips?

I usually hear this debate between 14s and 16s not between 16s and 18s. I just bought the wild 1 16s from HCC. They shipped the same day. Still waiting for them.

I went off the legal limits for me 5'10. That was why I chose 16s.
