Default clutch safety switch bypass

Hi all, I got a 2009 flstc and i want to put some after market hand controls on. Has anyone had any luck bypassing the clutch safety switch? I've read up on it a bit and get mixed signals. Some people say it causes problems because the bike thinks you're ridding with the clutch in. Doesn't make sence to me, but what do i know.... has anyone done this? thanks for the help

I mostly hang around in the Dyna forum... some one there asked the same thing.
I gave him two bits of advice.

The first was:
Locate the wiring harness plug for the left hand controls, which is stuffed down the back bone... under the tank on a Dyna.
Unplug it, dis-assemble it, solder a jumper wire to the two clutch safety switch pins, re-assemble the plug, (you'll have to consult a wiring schematic for which wires are which on a Soft Tail).

Your starter will now 'lurch' your bike forward when you push the start button if it is in gear.

My second bit of advice was:
Get a pair of hand levers for a newer model and leave the clutch SAFETY switch in proper working order.

Three things - One, easiest way is to just short the leads at the switch. Two, when did HDs start using these things? Three, why?

What's that sig line? "The pussification of the American biker is upon us."

Cool Clutch Start Switch - 1995

I just got a new to me 1995 FXSTC - it has a lot of things done to it. When I made the trade it would start right away when I hit the start button. It has a digital spedo added on.

It's been sitting a couple of weeks in storage and I had the key.

So today I went up to start it and - nothing at all when I hit the start button. Head light was on but not real bright and the horn was pretty bleak.

I had it in neutral and had the clutch in. I am charging the battery which showed 75% good and was put in new last FEB - gel battery.

The only thing I did to the bike was adjust the clutch cable because the PO had it tight to the lever with no play - I backed it out until I had about 1/8".

So any Ideas - does the 1995 have a clutch lock out switch or a sidestand down switch??? That might not allow it to start???? In neutral??

Thanks -

LBM

I have no idea @ a 95 model, but it sounds to me like your problem maybe more battery related... check that the battery cables are tight.
