Basically, all a stage 1 download does is change the range for the ECM to compensate for the added air flow the "stage 1" air cleaner they put on, by adding a bit more fuel into the mix. More air=needs more fuel.
The more air vs fuel your bike has, the faster it'll be but the harder it is on engine life. This is running lean.
The more rich your fuel is the cooler your engine will run and it'll run a bit smoother. It'll also help w/ engine life.
The goal is to get a good balance between the two.
I know you like those Radius pipes (and I used to have them) but the fact is: they suck on low end torque. they're great at higher RPMs but off they line they are awful, and I wouldn't be surprised if they accounted for 80% of that sluggishness you feel. If you had the stock exhaust on then put those on, it's a noticeable difference.
Right now w/ the canned stage 1 map, your bike is just running lean and not rich, which really means it should be running pretty good off the line. Not like a dyno'd bike mind you, but basically how it was before you did the stage 1.
Once you get your software and cables you will be able to tune it yourself with the help of a little red button. There is also a training video you can get from HD. Been reading?
lol, yea been reading, and i called surdykes, and no luck on getting my cables or cd, so going to have to purchase them, again, lol, im back at work now doing 12 hour days for most of january, so won't have much time for anything, but at least i'll have some extra jack for my baby.
correct me if im wrong, but it sounds to me that i will gain small to good h/p just by getting my bike tuned and dynoed, without having to install much at this point, just maximize what i already have
Exactly, you have done all the easy stuff and it just needs to be tuned. If its still not fast enough you will need to get into cams and more displacement.
