automatic chain tensioner in primary
When you have put enough miles, on the chain, to wear out the tensioner blocks the chain has been polished smooth and should not wear out the next set of blocks, anywhere near as fast.
You shouldn't have to adjust the tension as often since the chain wont stretch much more.
To me it wouldn't be worth it to change over to an automatic chain tensioner at that point.

Gotta Hayden M 6 auto chain tensioner in mine, and it works real well.
I've heard that some of them work real well and some of the other ones don't work so well for if that means anything. I'm sure it's in the installation of it, and periodically checking it. It's about 95% maintainence free though.

I was paging through an mc magazine at B&N the other day that had a good tutorial on installing one. It was a hydraulic style and said to be even better than the stock auto tensioner in our late model Vtwins which it said puts too much tension on the chain.
