Default change derby cover?

is it going to be a mess to change my derby cover? i never have worked on bikes before but have decided to start on mine. this being my first bike, and finding this forum, can't go wrong, right?

Not messy at all. I would suggest putting something under the kickstand just to stand it up a bit. Use a new gasket when replacing cover. Also, make sure you use a good torx head to get the bolts off so you don't round them off. Then tighten to the correct specs in a star pattern.

yea just what he said just stand the bike straight up or almost hardly anything comes out...i havent done much on mine either but did do that..hhahahah...im learning as i go

Yeah what he said... and I put mine on the jack first to keep it level. Not trying to be mean at all... but should really get a manuel for you bike asap it will help you a lot. We all gotta start somewhere I was lucky and a friend gave me one. But it is worth every penny!

i parked on a down slop drive and the bike was almost level. a 2x4 under the kickstand (jiffystand) will work also

If your bike has a flat gasket and not the big O-Ring type then just reuse the old gasket and save yourself $10.

No, I say replace the gasket. It will start seeping and dirt will start to stick.
