Default service done

Well, I got my night train back today from the 1000 mile service. There telling me there's nothing wrong with fuel gage, yet when I fill'r up it never reads full, only 3/4. Then they say it's a common problem with softtails.Anyway there's no leaks, and the clutch lever is adjusted differant, all the way out,I guess they took the play out of the cable, but it's good to have'r back home.

Howdy nitetrain. In regards to the fuel gauge and to the problems that you are having with it. I bought a Springer Softail a few weeks ago. I rest the bike on the jiffy stand and fill the tank up to the bottom of the filler neck insert. When I put the bike back into its upright position, the guage reads on the full mark. Maybe I am just lucky, but that's where it has read ever since I bought it. If I am not sure about the reliability of the gas gauge, I also know the mpg and I use the trip meter to see how far that I've gone and to know when I should fill up. Hope this helps some.

When i bought my deuce the salesman told me to expect the fuel gauge to stick.

He said it had to do with the way the factory had to bend the rod in the tank that it will get stuck.

As long as the gauge tells you when its time to fill up i wouldnt worry about it.

I always us one of my trip meters when i fill up and run about 150 miles max and fill up again.

That way i wont run out of gas if my gauge ever does stick.

Thanks for the support, it's like I said before, when you spend that much $ you expect every thing to work. Ya know if you bought a new car you would expect the fuel gage to work,or any thing else for that matter.

I totally agree. When a person spends a lot of hard earned money on something, they have a right to expect everything to work. That's the way that it should be.

The fuel gauage on my 2005 Fat Boy works fine and is very accurate .. go back and make them fix or replace yours. We pay big bucks for these scooters and should expect everything to work and work properly. slowrower

I can't agree more, we did not buy a metric bike that cost thousands less. We all bought the great american dream bike and by god it should work fine in all aspects. The average price we all paid for our bikes is 17k or so, beside's the sporty's. For that hard earn cash we should get the best and that should include service as well. I guess since we all except that flaw and the motor company doesn't really push to make it right. If they had stiff competition knocking on there door, would we have these issues? We accept something less than perfect and that is what they are giving us.
Remember the sqeaking wheel always gets the grease. MAKE THEM FIX IT!!!!

Cheers!

I also would take it back and tell them to fix it,the dealers get away with much too much with that old line "they all do that". It's a matter of opening up the tank and bending the gauge float rod, it boils down to a lazy dealer in my opinion. You'd probably be better off to do it yourself , pick up the gasket and new sealing screws and get it the way you want it.

Once again, thanks to all.Yea the service guy that did the work said that I could keep bringing it back so they could bend the float, but that means they would have the bike more then I would. Maybe I should try another dealer,as it is under warrenty.
