I have had my bike less than two months...already replaced the front running lights 4 times! Turn signals work fine. Have an appointment to have it looked at next week...but what can be causing this? I had my signals re-located...could I be getting a a power spike or something that is frying them? Could it be vibration? It is getting frustrating. Is this common?
I had this same problem with my Honda ACE, with the added problem of blowing a fuse once the new light was put in. It turned out that it wasn't grounded to the frame correctly. Just a thought . . . you may want to check the ground on the running light relocations.
I haven't had the problem but read previously that you can get heavy duty bulbs at the auto parts store that work better in vibration situations. Don't believe it is a voltage issue though.
Put dialelctric (SP?) grease on the terminal before you plug it in. It will cushon some of the vibration. I havn't burned a bulb out since doing this to my sporty turning/ running lamps.
My friend has a 2003 Heritage Softail and has replaced 2 sets of bulbs in his running lights. The dealer finally addressed the problem and did a different earth connection within the light housing. Has not happened since. I have a 2003 Fatboy and had running lights installed when purchased with the clear glass. Blew bulbs every week. Finally replaced them with the original ribbed glass and they have been fine for 2 years. I live in Australia so this problem is worldwide and HD should address the problem. IMO there is still a large "don't care" attitude in certain areas. Annoying stuff Harley.
