New to the HD world and I tried this thread in the detailing area but getting no response. Before it happens, how do i remove boot marks from the exhaust or the primary/clutch cover? I installed the new mini floor boards today for the Ol"lady and quickly realized that this will happen at some point and instead of cursing later was wondering if it can be removed.
Any good chrome polish will take scuff marks off. But scratches are another subject. You just about have to live with them. If you try too hard to remove them it will cause the chrome to cloud.

Boot marks on the exhaust - melted rubber - spray oven cleaner on a cloth(not on the exhaust or the oversppray with spot paint), ride it and rub it off after the exhaust gets hot.
Primary - chrome or metal polish - Mother's ball would work great.

I guess I need to clarify, not the sctraches, the actually melt on of the black from the boot. I have seen it on many bikes, i have heard WD 40 will remove it but not sure
Ive done this several times. just crank the bike and let the pipes get hot, which re-melts the rubber on em. then take a soaking wet rag and wipe it off with quick swipes. it will singe the rag a little depending on how quick you are but it works perfectly.
For most plastic rubber sole burns from the wife's boots (several times now), I used solvents, the better being MEK - but have one swipe burned into the pipe it won't touch. I'll have to try the EZ Off cleaner next. The solvents did completely clean the chrome up tho where they worked. Just polish after that.

I don't know how many times I've said the same thing...
It's just boot poo...it went ON hot, It'll wipe OFF hot...
Some people just want to work hard, I guess...always reminds me of what an old timer kept telling me back in the 60's when I kept trying to complicate things..."It ain't rocket science son...it's a Harley"...
