My pinstriper is a buddy of mine so I've never had a problem with him signing his work. He stripes by hand and I appreciate the artistry that goes into the piece. He's always added his mark tastefully and discreetly. I consider my helmet to be a piece of functional art and am all for giving the artist credit where credit is due. Truth be told, I'd much prefer his signature over HD emblazoned on every piece on the bike.

I always sign my work with a very small signature, if you don't want it. I'd refund your money and wipe off all the pinstriping. I take alot of pride in my work, and don't do it for the money.
If you tried to punch me it the mouth, I'd stick a .45 up your nose before you could blink.

I don't let people advertise on my things. If I am happy with the work or product I will tell people, and if I'm not, I will tell people. I have yet to find a dealership willing to let me paint my name on the building for being a good customer. On a side note, if a person ever pulls a gun on someone because they might get "punched in the mouth," they will be sitting in jail for a long time. You must believe your life is in danger to justify that response. Additionally, we should be careful what we post. If we are ever put in the position of needing to use deadly force, a simple google search would give the prosecuting attorney plenty of ammunition to use in court against us.

Could it be removed later on if I chose to ??
Phone number i would not allow, though a signature wouldnt bother me. Most artists sign it in a small spot; its their artwork let them sign it. You are payin for that person to do the striping why not be proud of who did it.

To me its no different then wearing a band tshirt, or for that matter HD tshirts...

you bought it for a reason because you like it, therefore anytime you wear it or ride your bike its advertising for the band, shop or individual...

im sure you can discuss where the artist signs it but i think its wrong not to allow him to sign it- its his work, let him get the credit for it,...

Man it's like letting your tattoo guy ink his name on you no way unless its free! If people like the work I'll tell them where I got it done. I debage every thing I own no free advertising here.

so all your clothes are generic no name no advertising on them also? debadge your auto? your cell phone? ur computer? ur home stereo, tv, tools, everything visible in the garage?

I wear my tattoo artists shop shirts, he pinstripes also...his name is advertising. If someone sees ur bike parked somewhere and you are not there to answer questions to spread the word then how is anyone supposed to know who did the work?

i mean hell the signature- is usually initials or a nickname- and is no bigger than 1/2 inch. Its not like the artist is signing his full name, website, phone number, etc

Attached is a new biltwell helmet im waiting to arrive. There is Shawns initials (imperialhouse71) on the helmet. I have NO issues with that being there.

Im waiting on another helmet from Spooner that he pinstriped and did artwork on. he will put his initials/signature on it in a small area. It doesnt bother me.

It's amazing how much we advertise without ever thinking about it. If only I could find a way to advertise an engine rebuild.

Take it easy, Hot Rod. We're all friends here. My helmet dons the sig of the striper who did it. Just being facetious.

Not to turn this into a philosophic debate on aesthetics, but I hardly consider consumerism an art. The whole comparison doesn't make sense. The best argument for getting him not to sign it is actually Lundee's comparison to a tattoo artist. Ask the artist if it is a big deal to him/her and leave it at that.

I have good relationships with both my tattoo artist and pinstriper and would rather support their craft with a little free advertisement over shilling for the moco or the dealer. If a craftsman or the local indy bike shop gives me a free t-shirt, then I'll gladly wear it. Lord knows, word of mouth is the most advertisement they're gonna get in this small town.
