Default A lil' help with taillight selection, please?

Howdy folks...

Here's a pic of the fender I've chosen for the make-over of my Softail Standard...

Actually, I could either go with the frenched in plate (as shown above) or the same fender but completely smooth. My problem is, I'm having a heck of a time picking a tail/brake light assembly for EITHER fender.

The lights I know I DON'T want are the side mounts as I have not found one I really like. Or, if I went with the non-frenched fender, I don;t want any light that mounts the plate above the light.

I'm kind of partial to the non-frenched fenderm with a tombstone light modified with the plate below... Although I have NO idea how to do that mod. HOWEVER... I'm open to any and all suggestions from the softail collective. Whatcha think?

Edit to add: for a finished bike, think Story808 with a bit of a twist...

The frenched in plate ROCKS!! But I have reservations about my plate fitting and looking decent in the recess. What I mean by that is, with the special plate frame built for that fender, and the license plate installed, will the license plate's mounting holes be visable at all? I would hope they would be covered. But if they're not, it would look terrible.

And what do I do about lighting the license plate?

Here's the tail light I was thinking about using...

It's the Slimline low-profile tombstone from Kuryakyn. I like the lower profile of this light over the other more "bulky" designs. And I think the overall shape would lend itself nicely with the longer flow of the fender itself.

I'm not planning on running turn signals. But if I must, I have a few custom "howebrewed" ideas I'd like to try...

Your thoughts?

The frenched in one is cool but you'll have to buy thier lic plate frame which is like another $200 something... I do like the smooth extended one! What are you thought about leaving it smooth and doing a side plate mount with brake light? Just my .02 but if you put a tailight on the fender you'll be taking away that custom look that you'll be paying for? I do like a blacked out Tombstone also though?... lol Take your time Loose I know you'll figure it out!

Thanks Mark!! My buddies and I had a little "get together" last night and we were divided on the frenched vs. non-frenched issue. And that photo you posted really sealed the deal for me. BTW... I already had that one saved.

After considerable discussion, a case or so of barley pop and a few snorts of Mezcal... The rear fender verdict is in...

SMOOOOOOOOOTH and EXTENDED!!

With a side mounted plate/tail/brake light. My search continues for that though... The "perfect mount" is a tough bird to find that's for sure. And if worse-comes-to-worse... I can always do the Kury lo-pro tombstone without ruining the lines of the fender too badly. Then just mount the plate on the side... All depends on what Johnny Law has to say next week. Or not...

I'm still a long way from a completed mock-up. And then the last tear down for paint, powdercoat and chrome... And, of course, winning the lottery to pay for all this stuff!!!

Get the Heartland sidemount that is horizontal. Here is a pic. Yes, the light is really bright when on. I finally got my price list from KW so I will get you pricing on the smooth rear fender. I like the smooth better as well.
