I will probably have someone else do the work for me. I can do simple bolt on things like air filters and pipes, but this is beyond my limited skills. I would to keep it under 1k, so I will probably start with just the cams.

TK, thanks for the link to the Zippers cams on sale. It looks like the sale ended earlier this week, but i will give them a call and see if I can still get them at that price. Looks like the TW60 is 1/2 off. I vaguely remember hearing good things about it. Anyone have them on their scoot?

I went with the S&S 510g (gear drive) cam very reliable and torq. is great. If you do not do any other work go with adj. pushrods like someone else said so you do not have to take off the top end.

Springer, you might wanna take a look at the Andrews 26 as well. For 1k you might be able to have them put on the new camplate with hydraulic tensioners as well. Make sure they replace the inner bearings with Timken B148's.

OK. I went to 2 different places this afternoon and of course, they recommended 2 different things. The local indy shop recommended the S&S 510g cam kit. The Harley dealer recommended the 88 to 95 inch big bore kit that comes with the SE 203 cams. The price installed of both is pretty close, but the big bore kit would be about $200 more. Both places gave me completely different stories as well. The indy said the S&S cam kit would give me at least a 10 HP increase and give me the sound I want. The Harley dealer said that cams would give a minimal bump in horsepower, I think he said less than 4 HP, and wouldn't change the sound. Which is the better choice?

They are both right. The cam will change the sound (i think for the better) and true the the S&S 510g will only add 4-5hp but can come very close to 10-12tq. I believe you were looking for TQ, which i believe is the most important value because that is what you feel in the wrist and seat of your pants. HP is what everyone talks about but you will very rarely max that number out, you feel tq every time you twist the wrist. With the 88in setup you have the old cam shoes which is why I went with the gear drive cam it is more reliable and does add slightly more tq (2-4) over a chain set up. Some people complain about a whine with gear drives but the only whine I have experienced is the person telling me about it (LOL), as long as they are installed correctly and the lash is within .02 you will be fine. Short story Long.. go with the S&S 510 adj. pushrods and a good tune and down the road if you want go 95in because that setup works good with both 88 and 95.

I had an Andrews ev46 cam installed in my 99 evo I picked up 12 horses and 7.97 lbs. of torque 69.51 hp and 75.46 tq.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I think I am going to go with the S&s 510G. My bike has 23,000+ miles on it, so it's probably time to switch away from the chain and move to the gear drive.

I think you will be very happy with them and it leaves room for a big bore down the road if you choose. If you have any questions PM me.

Just my 2 cents but if most of your riding is solo, I would go alittle bigger on the cam. I was going to get TW26 and I let the indy shop (throttle city) talk me into the TW50's. after his tune I lost no low end and got big gains uptop. I'm very happy and I have something that will work great with a 95" kit If I install one. ( like the one under the table in my garage that the wife dosen't know about)
