Default When would you need a Breather Kit?

I saw these things at a swap meet earlier and through they were pretty cool looking. Problem is, I have no idea if my bike might need them or could benefit from having them.

I think they have something to do with catching excess oil from the air breather? But I could be wrong. Anyone know for sure? When would you use them? Are they worth dropping $200ish?

Looks to me like they would bolt into the sides of the heads next to the air cleaner on certain after market air cleaners. They would do exactly what you think, catch excess oil. I believe some air cleaners don't have the option of venting back into the air cleaner like the origonal football air cleaner. In that case you put the origonal breather venting bolts thru those oil catchers and they would bolt into the head, left and right of the air cleaner and any oil that gets pushed thru those breather bolts gets caught by those two expensive items. Most aftermarket air cleaners just vent back into the air cleaner box. Long winded but I hope that explains it. More importantly I hope I'm right.

That was a good explanation. I don't think here is a "need" unless you find a lot of oil in you air filter when you remove it for a cleaning. That being said I think those are some cool crankcase breathers. I like the Doherty version as well. Keep in mind that if your bike does end up with a lot of excess oil, it will sort of gently mist out of the breathers.

Yeah, pretty much what I expected. Definitely not worth dropping $200, especially since I've never noticed excess oil... but maybe now I'll pay more attention just in case.

Why what?

... I think they look like little Bee Hives. There are other designs for these things too, if this one does not appeal to you.
