Default Wider Tire on Fatboy - Pre 07's

I know a lot of you install a Metzler 160 on the rear when replacing the stock 150. The reason mentioned is usually because it is a narrower 160. So, does that mean a Bridgestone G702 160/80-16 will not fit? Or may be too close? Is their that much of a diff between the two tires? The Bridgestones cost less... These are rated at 130mph and over 800lbs.

There is only one way to know for sure. It "should" fit" but that does not mean it will. Get a Heartland Kit and go real Phat!

the usual reason most have problems is because of the rear tire being offset to the belt side, making it a close fit to the inner fender. steve

Someday... for me, a 180 would be perfect if I could keep the same fender...

Yeah, mine is probably more offset left than most. Scraped the fender awhile back and strong armed the fender and struts closer to center again. It looks like it may have wandered back a bit.

The Bridgestone G702 is a 6.2" at 160mm. Looks like the stock D401 is a wide 150 at 6.15 inches and recommended rim width is 3 inches. The Dunlop D404 150 can be had for less money but its 5.8" and recommended rim size is 3.5". Interesting how even the same manufacturers tires are a little inconsistent.

D401:

Could not find the width of these HD low profile smooth laced 16" wheel's? They measure much wider on the outside of the rim than 3 inches, which is the stock D401 tire recommended rim width.

In direct response to your question... it is supposed to fit and I have not run accross a tire yet that was actually wider than it specs say it is supposed to be... go for it
