Electrical Issues on 2008 Softail
Hey Guys…I’m new to the forum as official member…been a lurker for about a year reading the threads and getting advice…I promise to formally introduce myself later but at the moment I have an issue that has me sleepless and in desperate need of a point in the right direction…
While upgrading my signals to LED’s on my 2008 Rocker C this winter I errantly powered up the bike with some loose wires in the front switches…the turn signal wires created a short and blew the light fuse…I replaced the fuse and addressed the loose wires…turned back on…now nothing in the right switch works…the odometer/clock doesn’t come on...the signals light but do not flash…the brake light does not work…ignition switch is dead…this is all with the upgraded LED’s removed and the rear light harness unplugged(front HD signals only)...everything on the left side works fine(with the exception of the turn signals)...headlamp high/low beam...horn...
I’ve done the simple checks…all fuses…thrice…I replaced both relays…I’ve not gone through the harnesses with a continuity checker or digital multi-meter…I’ve ordered the Harley Electronics Diagnostic Manual…it should be here in a day or two…I already have the Service Manual with the circuit schematics…
I’m hoping that someone may have a simple first check for the obvious…The bike does have a security system and I am wondering if perhaps it is tripped on…my theory is that the short from the signal wire traveled back through the right side 6 pin harness…it goes to the system relay, TSSM, and ECM…I am fearful that the ECM has taken the hit…I can’t believe that it wouldn’t be better protected though…

Do you have the Service Manual with the wiring diagrams. Looks like the O/W wire going to the left switch may be the common denominator. I'm not very good at reading diagrams but it appears to also go to the rear stop lamp switch, instrument panel and ignition switch via the accessories fuse. Could there be an inline fuse you're missing?
Yeah...the O/W wire is my next area where I will get out the dianostic devices and and look for the continuity and connection...haven't done it yet...no in-line fuses I'm aware of...I practically memorized the electrical schematics...thanks for the suggestion...Jimmers1817
