Default softail classic or touring model

Hi guys, fairly new here and want opinions. I am thinking about moving up to a road king or an electra glide classic from a softail classic. What are pros and cons of both bikes and which should choose king or glide? Thanks in advance.

I went from a ST Deluxe to a RK and then back. If you need a touring bike it is hard to beat them. My suggesetion would be to rent (I Did) the bike you think you want and spend at least one full day on it. Geezer glides have there place in this sport. I owned my Rk for 2.5 yrs but couldn't get used to sitting on the bike and not feeling like I was one with the bike. I changed out the bars and seat with no great luck.
Just my experience,
John

I go through stages where I think I want to move up to a touring bike also. All it takes is a demo on one to change my mind. My Heritage fits me too well and I doubt I'll be parting with it anytime soon.

Of the touring bikes the one I would be least likely to get would be an Ultra. Just not a good bike for the type of riding I do most of the time. I like the versatility and windshield of the RK but also see the benefits of having a fairing which means a SG would probably be my 1st or 2nd choice.

Thanks, i knew you are sitting on the king and not in it like the softail and wondered if i would get used to it either. Does the glide feel the same as the king? Are you on it or in it. I really like that about the softail.

I have an 07 Heritage and ride whenever not farming or pushing snow! I love the bike and am keeping it even though I just bought an Ultra Limited. More for me and the OL. I rode my buddies Ultras and several during the last couple years at demo days. I am stoked to ride the new bike but still snow here in Minnesota. My favorite baggger I rode was the Road Glide CVO 2008. But for 2 up I don't like the new 2010 Road Glide so went with the Ulrta. Ride tham at demo days it's a great way to get a feel for a bunch of different bikes!!! If you're riding solo check out the Road Glide I think it has more of the Heritage feel to it. JMHO

I've had three EGs & 1 RK, just bought a Heritage. So far happy with the decision but until the first long ride won't know for sure. But I was tired of the top heavy bike especially two up,all the paint to clean & the heat they throw off. Some take the lowers off but then why have them? But the jury's still out. For the short rides so far with the wife on the back the handling & confidence at stops makes me think this was the right move. One last thing, the cross wind does affect the bat wing on the EG.

I have one of each and like them both very much. RK has a little nicer ride and you do sit higher. Heritage feels more like a real Harley if that makes any sense at all. I lean all the way back with my elbows locked and feel like Peter Fonda in Easy Rider. The riding position of the RK is much more upright. The RK is more versatile, holds more stuff. I switch bikes about every 6 weeks and I'll tell you when I go to the RK the seat feels 6" higher but I get used to it again after a couple days. There really is no answer to your question because everyone is different. You must sit on each bike, test ride them, and decide which one to buy or buy one of each. That solves the problem also.

I notice you have the wind defletors on your Heritage, just wondering how you like them as I am thinking of getting a set.
Thanks
