Howdy all...re-entry rider; been riding about three years now and thinking about my first H-D. Local dealer has a very nice 2006 Softail Standard for sale. I don't know a whole lot about Harleys and so this is probably obvious to all of you, but I believe it has the 88-inch engine and 5-speed transmssion.
Seems like a nice, basic bike. Would be interested to learn about the ownership experience with this machine...any problems, peculiarities? How does it handle? Any information would be appreciated...
Thanks in advance for all responses...I ask here because you folks seem to be very knowledgeable...
Im on my first harley which is a 03 standard. I came from riding sportbikes and I was pleasantly surpised by the harley. It handles and accelerates better than I expected. The stock seat was aweful for me and caused back pain but I bought a touring seat with backrest and this thing is awesome now.
My first Harley was a Softail Standard as well. I loved that bike...No issues at all. Put 24,000 miles on it and only had to do routine items to it...tires, brakes, and such.
Hey, I love mine too! I have had more fun with this bike than any I've owned. Possibilities for this bike are endless. Yea, I know, I've spent way too much $$$$ on it but hey you only live till ya die.
The softail standard is a great bike. Other than the stock seat I've had no complaints with the bike. It's a great place to start if you want to customize.
