heres a pic of side shots wrapped over heat shields. its a little harder to do, but i thinl it looks better cuz of the larger diameter and you dont see the steps in the pipes.

If your looking for diameter. Without the shield is a little skinny imo. I seen a guy double wrap the pipe without the shield. Started at the flange. Worked his way down to the mufflers then went back up to the flanges and put a stainless hose clamp. Or one of the heat shield clamps would be the same I guess. I wish I had some pics cause it did give it some beef. Yeah, gloves are a must...

Remove the exhaust from the bike before you wrap, it is much, much, much easier. Start at the rear of the pipe not the head, this will prolong the wrap from fraying. When you get to the O2 bung wrap over it and make a small incision in the wrap, and pull the wrap tight. The wrap will go over the bung snug and will not leave a gap. Finish wrapping the pipe. If you wet the wrap let it dry completely before spraying. Tape off the O2 bung and any other part of the pipe you dont want sprayed. I use High temp BBQ paint (it lasts longer), but the Silicone Spray for the wrap works fine. Spray the wrap all over, make sure you get a good coat on them. Let dry, install pipe, fire it up and take it for a spin. The wrap will smoke for about 20 minutes, the wrap is curring. For the next few weeks the wrap will smoke a little. Wear gloves and long sleeve shirt this is fiberglass. If you are wrapping the pipes without wetting the wrap then wear a painters mask, you dont want that crap going into your lungs. Take your time and wrap tightly. Hope this helps. Oh yeah post pics. Check my album for pics of my wrapped pipes.

wrapped pipes look good, i would have no idea about keepin shields on or off! i would yhink off would be better and tighter, especialy when that heat gets in,however a fatter look of the shields may look cool if you can get it tight!

Soak the wrap, take off the exhaust, tie the wrap to something sturdy, I used the railing for my garage door, and wrap those suckers tight by turning the exhaust and pulling the wrap tight. Start at the top and work your way down. I have seen a lot fo wrap jobs that have come loose and I think it looks like crap. Wrapped mine 4 years ago and they are still nice and tight.
