Unhappy '94 180 Conversion

I need some help...
I am in the process of mounting a 180 Metzeler in the stock swingarm with a 1-1/8" belt and pulley and stock bake caliper. I have it all together but without any pulley spacing the belt is rubbing the tire. The pulley is real close to the swingarm now and if I do space it any more than 1/8" the pullet will hit the swingarm. Do I have to machine the brake caliper at the axle to get more clearance? Will this throw the wheel/tire off center?
Has anyone done this conversion successfully on a '99 and older model? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I'm putting a 200 on 84 but I am not using the stock swingarm. Are you using the stock wheel? it is usually best to put the wheel in the center of the frame and measure to see what you have to space on each side to get everything to line up. You cannot space the pulley out just to miss the tire...it has to be in line with the front pulley. Strings and straightedges are your friends. I like to use stacks of washers to space everything around...and once you get it where you want, measure the washers and have spacers made or order some ready made ones. Kick back, take your time and it will come to you.

I'm using a '00 newer wheel, pulley and rotor. The hub length is the same as the stock wheel but has sealed bearings so the stock axle spacers don't seem to work. After centering the tire will t be obvious if the stock caliper will work?

I put a Duece wheel with a 160 Dunlop on my 99 fxstc with stock swingarm....tons of work!! new 1" pulley and belt new duece caliper, had to machine 1/4 " off of pulley, had to weld longer tab on swingarm for caliper reroute wiring into fender strut for rear lights, grind lip off bottom of fender, new spacers etc....lot of money and work,But it looks and rides incredible!!!

I did a 200 but used a wide swing arm. while doing it though I still encountered 1 1/8 belt ever so slightly touching the avon tire. I wound up buying I think a 1/4 inch spacer for between the wheel and sprocket and shortened the right side spacer moving the center off a bit to the right. I was really worried because I always spend time to center my tire, but when it all went together you'd never know the difference. rode just like a stock setup. just food for thought.

For several years Harley offset the wheel to the right 1/2 inch off center, so that is an option.

offset is quite common!, you no you can get a 1mm or so machined off face of pulley to get it closer to swingarm, do a google search,i found it when i was doing research for installing my 18x5.5,some guy fitted a 17x6.25 and machined pulley to give himself credit card width clearance between pulley and swingarm!

Well, I have it all together now. Machined the axle mount down to offset the wheel to the right. The belt misses the tire about 3/8" but when I give it throttle when rolling down the road (pass a car) the belt vibrate violently slapping the tire. Is the belt too tight? Too loose? Thanks. I will post a few pics when I am sure it's right.
