Magic would have been my guess too. I don't know how they do it, or how it's different from other jacks, but what I DO know is you'll never worry about it.

The issue with the Sears jack isn't as much about how the bike sits on the jack, its the fact that the jack supports sway under the heavy weight of the bike. If you eliminate that swaying, the Sears jack would be just as stable. They've designed the J&S jack to be very stable, that's what makes the difference in cost.
About the only issue I could see with the J&S jack from the videos is that the frame that surrounds the bottle jack might be an obstacle to working on the bike unless its is jacked all the way up, but that's a nit, really, given how stable it is.
