Default RPMs

Can anyone tell me about how many RPMs I'm turning with my 06 Heritage Classic at 70 mph? It's a stock motor, regular old five speed. Also, what is considered "red line" on these engines? Is there a rev limiter? I don't wind it up too much because I want this engine to last a looooong time.

Thanks for the info! [sm=pimp.gif]

I think it's about 3000 at 70 mph but not sure and the factory rev. limiter should be set at 5200 rpm.

I don't know what difference it makes, but I have an Electra Glide and at 70 my rpm's are about 3200. They can do that all day long.

Softail Deluxe here. Tach reads right on 3000rpm at 70mph in 5th gear.

Thanks for the info - sounds low enough. Does the 6 speed lower it much?

Depends on the six speed. The new '07 six speed will lower it by a couple hundred RPM, but there is little difference between the final drive on the '07 six speed and the TC88 five speed. A true overdrive, such as the SE 6 speed, has a final drive close to 1:1 and will significantly reduce RPM at 70 MPH, but you must have the torque to keep it going down the road. I don't know how a SE 6 speed would do with a stocker 88.
