dealership saying new 96 engine better than 88b, anyone have an opinion. was thinking of trading 05 deluxe on new model, but is it worth dishing out more green backs.
Might be less expensive to just do a 95 kit or possibly a little more expensive to do a 103 kit.. But for 8 more cubes, I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Depends on how much you'd lose on your trade in. Anyone got any price estimates on the 95 or 103 SE upgrades? I know it ain't cheap.. The 95 us just an upper rebuild but the 103 requires cracking the cases (total bottom up engine rebuild.. crank pistons heads.. whole nine yards.. everything but the VIN#).
For your dealer's statement.. What does he mean by "Better"?
thank you for responce on question i posted, as far as dealer statement, all i got out of it was the 96 will have less negative force playing aganist it because of the sixth gear and more cubes.
I know the 103 kit is 3K plus and I think the 95 is about half of that. I would not take the hit of depreciation by trading my 05 Deluxe 88B in on an 06 or 07 just to pick up the 8 cubes. You can get a heck of a lot more power by changing out the pipes, air cleaner and cams in your 88B.
Now the six speed is a nice thing to have but I doubt if the dealer will give you enough on a trade to cover the cost of the new bike. I would like to know the details of the deal that they do offer you. It will cost you about 3K to put in a six speed. Too much to ever recover any of that option, with all the new bikes having six speeds as standard equipment. Suggest you run your 05 until it has lots of miles and then trade.
I don't know...trade in an 05 for an 06...for 3.2 extra ft lbs of torque that comes on 500 rpm earlier. To me it doesn't justify buying a new bike. I just did the Stage II Big Bore w/pipes & end caps for $2k total...so except for the 6-speed I'm ahead of the 07's. I guess the question is how much touring do you do & how much you'd actually be in 6th gear.
BTW...my dealer is offing a special this month on the SE 6 Speed...$2200 inc. labor.
No matter what I'd wait a year or two so that they can work out all the kinks and issues. They changed alot this year...and I'm sure there is going to be some small issues pop up. I have an 06 Heritage and it isn't worth it to me to upgrade..I like my bike and the 88b and 5 speed are fine for what I do with it. That 6 speed would be great on a Ultra or a Road King thats going to see lots of highway miles though.
I have a 05 Deluxe in perfect shape. Has a SERT, 95" and lots of extra's in ways of detachable's and seats and more. While looking at 07's, the dealer aksed me if I was intersted in trading. I asked him what mine would be worth. (Just out of curiousity, cause I would never trade). He said mine would be worth about the 15K mark. That was a worse insult then I expected. If it were stock with no 95" I still would have not considered it. Like I said, never was considering trading but thought I would see what he offered. 07's offer more but not really a big deal. I got my 95" for $600 since labor was covered for the valve stem seal problem on my 05, so I am set!
Do these new motors have any sort of high performance heads? If not, then I would think a 95" inch kit w/ some heads would out perform the new 96". Any thoughts?
