Default bar diameter choice

I'm planning on putting apes on my '03 standard. Not sure whether to go with 1 1/4 inch diameter apes or 1 inch apes. It seems with the 1 inch apes, there is a greater variety of risers to choose from. Also, at some point in the future I'd like to go the foot clutch / tank shifter route and eliminate the clutch lever and switches on the left side of the bars. I would think that most 1 1/4 inch bars might look odd with only a grip and exposing the sudden change between the 1 inch bar end and the rest of the 1 1/4 inch bar.

What are your thoughts? Positives and negatives of each choice?
