Hows everyone doing... Still trying to catch up.. still half way into the story of Jims rebuild.
I pulled off my badges and I put on the lift.. I did the front and the rear lift.. My hope is adding the rear lift will compensate some for the lift and not equal as much loss of fuel.. Jim do you think it will help?
I did a 1/4" lift on the rear, because the 1/2" DK thing caused the seat to fit improperly, so i sawed the bit in half.. anyways, when i ran my tank down all the way to empty, then drained out the rest, i still pulled about 3/4-1 gallon of fuel out from the thing. That was only like a 1.5" lift, too.

Here is a link to a thread that I started that might be helpful for you. It has a lot of Information about tank lifts.
I might have missed the thread.. What did the Train front end run? Did you have to PC it? And was it is an easy install?
thanks..

I pieced it together, didn't buy the kit from HD. Put in a saved search on ebay and wait for one to come along. I think in total I have about $290 into it vs. almost $500 new from the moco. It was chrome so I had it all PC'd and the install is super easy. I've actually had it on/off several times already while doing other projects. It goes on/off much faster than the standard setup.
Has anybody installed HD's side mounted oil cooler? I got the correct one from the local dealer today. It looks like I'll be doing the install during my daughters nap time on Saturday. That gives me about two hours so should that be enough time including the oil change? I read the instructions and it looked too easy meaning there has to be a time consuming snag in there somewhere. I'm also wondering if there is any benefit to leaving the cover off as far as cooling goes.
My Bag did the same thing.. On the way to Chilicothe last year.. I took it to a leather store and they fixed it up.. the main problem i had and the way i found i had an issue was riding in the rain water got inside the bag.. Keep an eye out..

I tend to lean a little harder than most so I scraped the bottom of the bag quite a few times. I guess over time it wore away the threads that were there holding the bottom together, so there is now a 2-3" hole in the bottom along with a little rub in the leather (which is not noticeable when on the bike). The leather still overlaps and is pretty thick, so unless you have some spare change down in there, nothing is going to fall out. But with some patience and some black thread, it's a real easy fix. A little rub of shoe polish would probably fix up the road rash on the bottom of the bag too. Here are some pics:
If you are still interested, shoot me an offer. I am not looking to make money on it. As long as you cover shipping and throw in a couple extra bucks for the run to the post office, I'd be cool with that.
I picked them up from www.bikertrends.com for just a hair over $790.00! Seriously good deal and fast shipping. Just plug in the part number of the ones you are wanting in their search box and you should be able to find them.
Bill: Good to see you got the bike back up. Looks like you guys have some nice weather going on out there too.
You guys wrench on your bikes all the time and really seem to know your stuff. I recently aquired a new outer primary cover for my Lo and I'm curious when I change out the new one for the old do I need to get a new gasket. Bike has under 5000 miles on her. And just to be clear I'm asking about the primary cover not the derby cover. Thanks in advance

yes, some will say no, but they are made to crush on installation. so replacement is SOP if removing...
