Default Touring to softail

Well, I went from a RK to an Ultra to Softail Heritage. The RK was an 01 and I liked it very much but my wife wanted the big back seat of an Ultra so traded it for an 07 Ultra. Well what a mistake that was! Engine pinged and was so hot my wife could not ride. Also, I wasn't really comfortable on it (short legs). So traded for a 09 Heritage and best bike I ever had. Last June rode from Las Vegas, NV to PA and back (5500+ miles)very comfortable and no problems. I do miss the cruise control on long rides but I understand there is an after market avail. So, I have no regrets giving up the Ultra.

The only reason I would go from my EG to any other bike is if the infirmities of old age require a lighter bike.

Back in 96 I went from an 91 Ultra to a 96 Softail Custom and was always glad that I did. Now I have a Road King Custom and don't want anything else as of now. I don't think I would ever go back to an Ultra or any fairing bike but I might go back to a softail. Wife liked the Ultra the best but that's the way it goes.

Since you're asking, and I have both, I'd say it depends on how many miles a year you ride, how many long trips or if you just do the weekend getaway thing right now, or if you ride 2 up most the time or 1 up.

Generally always one up, weekend getaways- probably about 6-7k a year. Thats why a fat boy would work ok. I did like my Road King but a Fat Boy would definitely work. Like I said previously- with the 2 bikes I'm looking at the price would be about the same and obviously I would be getting more value with the king but the Fat Boy is a sweet bike.

Default hello

hello julia here..A Harley-Davidson is a very expensive.. mcitp bootcamp What you think it says is: "I'm a free spirit who comes and goes with the wind" when in fact the statement is closer to "I paid $15,000 for 50 horsepower and 700 pounds of chrome".

I've been going back and forth between the Heritage and different touring models. The first thing I notice when going back to the Heritage is the performance difference. The 96B motors have a little less get up and go than the 96A motors. The counter balance is smooth but you can feel the power loss. I'm not saying that the Softails don't have enough power, just that there's a noticeable difference between the A & B motors. The Softails actually fit me better, being a short fat guy, and I find the Heritage to be extremely comfortable. I always have to lower my touring bikes, but the Softails fit fine. As for one model being better than the other, that's impossible to say. There are too many variables. One being how tall you are. The Softails are great for shorter folks like me. Touring models favor taller people.I think if one model was better than another, we'd all have the same bike.
