shock help

I tried to adjust my pre-load on my 07 deluxe this weekend. when I tried to break the lock nut loose the whole dang shock turns,stud and all. whats the deal? how do you keep it from turning to break the nut loose?

The stud has flats on it to use an open-end or adjustable wrench. Be careful not to round them over. Look close, you'll see them!!

thanks man. I did see the flats but I guess it didnt occur to me thats what they were for, duh... I was having a dumb *** attack I reckon. THANKS!
