Default '07 FXST

I just traded my '06 Sportster XL1200 SE Stage I in for an '07 Softail Standard. Vast improvement, but boy is it slugish without any performance upgrades. Anyone have the inside scoop on what the upgrade tree will look like for the new 96ci twin?

Congratulations on the new bike. Face it though, it will never run like the Sporty.

We got guys in the forum trading in '06 bikes with stuff on them and $5k to get '07's with 96ci. I hope they're not all sluggish or some guys are gonna be pretty bummed..

DOH! Nooooooo!

I plan on getting street pipes put on and will be going to the Stage I 96 to 103ci upgrade. That will probably be the bulk of it with the exception of a performance coil, plugs, and wires. I guess with stage one I will not need a race ECM module--just a flash of the factory module.

Hopefully that picks it up a little better.

The stock Big Twin coil/ignition system is already at least equal to anything in the aftermarket as far as street performance is concerned. If I really wanted to go faster than my Night Train will carry me, I'd be looking at a 1200 Sportster with an SE stage 1 kit, a Buell, a V-Rod, or (horrors!) elsewhere. These babies (big twins) are built for comfort, looks, and sound, and they deliver - big time! Speed?...not so much. Oh, they can go faster. Lots faster. But it'll cost, in money and civility.

I definately need some more sound. The stock FXST purrs like a kitten. My local service department told me I should wait 1-2 years to see how HD handles upgrades for the new engine/ECM combination. 1-2 years to put a new exhaust system on--that can't be right!
