Default PCIII map without timing?

I just bought a PCIII from FuelMoto. The map that came installed doesn't have any timing? I was comparing this map to others available from Dynojet for my combo and they all seem to have a timing map to go along with the fuel map. Just curious as to why. Thanks

Myself I wouldnt run a PC without a Dyno Tune, thats the whole Idea,A good tuner will get every mil sec out of the PC from idle to wide open.

Every rider and bike is differant.............

I don't currently have the funds for a dyno session. I'm not looking to ring out every last drop of power, just curious about a map with timing changes vs. no timing. I'll ask FuelMoto. Thanks.

hehe, ah the topic of tuners.

Not sure myself what the answer is, or at least the correct answer. To me personally since the PC is there to optimize air/fuel ratios and timing on stock or modified bikes, it probably brings out better results to change the timings along with any changes to the air/fuel mixture to maximize the engines performance (not necessarily more power, but just better all round performance (ie. efficiency).
Go to the PC website and look though the maps they have listed there and see if there is anything that matches your setup. If there is no "exact match" then try to select one that is closest to you by pipe length and diameter. On air cleaners, if you have, for example, a Ness "Big Sucker" and the map you are looking at is for a "Screaming Eagle" air cleaner, that's probably as close as you are going to get, and should be fine. Additionally, you can call or email Power Commander for a Map recommendation for your specific combination.
Or look in the forum thread about if anyone has a similar setup like you and whether they posted their map.

good luck

Thanks for the reply. I found a map listed on Dynojets PC website that matches my combo, but in the details it says for "2001 Softail" There are very few maps listed with the years and none listed for 2005 models? Is a 2001 map the same as a 2005 map? I guess an email to dynojet is in order.

Check here:

http://www.powercommander.com/powerc...mdl=32&yr=2005

the trick might be to pick a map further down that is about stage 1 or 2 or about the exhaust you are running like the M805-145 and thurther down from there.
