Hi ya'll,my first post, and I have a question about Fat Boy wheel wobble and solid disc wheels.I just bought a 2006 fat Boy and yep, same old question....does the the solid disc wheel promote wheel wobble over 60 mph ? In a breeze, it seems that the solid wheels, especially the front end, really catches some air.I know this subject has been beat to death but it's new to me. Do I need to swap out the front solid disc wheel ( or both) for some spoked ones to help stabilize the bike at speed in a breeze ? Thanks and if you can direct me to some links on the subject I'd appreciate it. Dd
I changed my wheels because of the crosswind issues with the solids. I didnt like getting pushed around. Some people deal with it,i did until i could change the wheels.Once i changed it was a big difference. No more fighting the crosswind.
I personally have never experienced problems bad enough to make me want to get new wheels....the solid disk is the whole reason I got the fatboy over the heritage. I have felt crosswinds that make you grip a bit tighter, but nothing at all that makes the wheel actually wobble. Maybe do like rick did and try it for a while before you make a decision. Congrats on the Fatty and welcome to the Forum!
This question comes up all the time here. Some swear that the solid wheels make no difference in a crosswind and others swear that the wheels suck in a crosswind.
Personally, I noticed a huge difference when I got rid of the solids for a pair of RC Components Wicked wheels.
I'm with the group that feels the solid wheel does make you get blown around. I wouldn't describe it as a wobble, but if you're haulin tail down the road and a gust of wind hits ya it'll move you around within your lane.
But I also agree that you get used to it with time. First couple times out, when the nerves were still there, it troubled me. Now, I either anticipate it, or don't even notice it anymore. Anubiss has the right idea, go faster and blast through any crosswind!!!
some say yes, others adamitely denie. first trip a friend took with his, came home and put a set of fat spokes on and loved riding the bike after that. Besides he had the only one around and it was beautiful.
